McGregor Crushes Cerrone in UFC 246

Fans of The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) have this week been treated to an absolute stellar comeback performance by ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor, in his first fight for well over a year.

For those who don’t know, UFC is the world’s leading mixed martial arts fighting franchise. It’s a ruthless fighting championship that features some of the world’s most fearless fighters at the top of their fitness and fighting games.

UFC 246 took place in Vegas and marked a comeback for McGregor after a 15-month hiatus. His opponent, 36 year old Donald Cerrone was soon put to bed after a 40 second assault from McGregor was enough to end the match. A series of brutal strikes from McGregor soon dealt with Cerrone, prompting the referee Herb Dean to call the match before any further damage was caused. Honestly, he took a beating.

Take a look here for the highlights, and a snap of that killer combination of blows from McGregor.

That’s a fist you certainly don’t want to get on the wrong end of.

In a somewhat emotional tribute to the defeated Cerrone, a lady named Jerry soon entered the cage to congratulate both fighters. It turns out Jerry is actually Cerrone’s grandmother. In the post-fight press conference, McGregor referred to Jerry as a phenomenal woman, and complimented Cerrone, stating that he was honoured to have shared the cage with him.

What next for UFC?

That was a pretty epic fight, McGregor has given himself a huge boost back into the scene and has really set the bar for his next. Before then however we’ve got UFC 247 to look forward too, featuring Jones vs. Reyes as the main event, as well as a co-main fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Katlyn Chookagian, and a heavyweight match between Juan Adams and Justin Tafa.

UFC 247 takes place as the Toyota Centre in Huston, Texas on Saturday the 8th of February 2020.
